Highly Recommend Coral Coast Tour

Our experience with the Coral Coast Tour was great. We started out with a hike at the sand dunes. We had the choice to do a 2 hour hike or a 1 hour. Since my husband and I are from a much drier climate, we only did the short, 1 hour walk so that we wouldn't risk heat illness. It was absolutely wonderful and very beautiful. We stopped quite a few times along the hike to admire the local flora and even got to see quite a few bats. I would recommend wearing suitable hiking/walking shoes, but I saw others in flip flops (and one lone, lost flip flop by the ocean), so it it really your preference. After hiking, our driver took us to town for a bit of shopping where we got a haul to take back home with us to share a bit of Fiji with family and friends. Then, we went to a local spot our driver, Chris, recommended based on our desire for curry. We went to Shiva's takeout. It was very delicious and reasonably priced. Once we finished lunch, we went on to a local pottery village where we were treated to the Fijian tradition of a kava ceremony and got to watch the women make a couple clay pieces. We also got to buy pottery from the ladies. My husband and I were a little put off by the shopping experience because each woman has her own table where she sells her pieces. Very similar to a craft market in America. However, each woman has very similar pieces and it was hard to choose because we felt bad giving any one woman money over the others. Like, all your turtle bowls are similarly beautiful. Finally, we wrapped the excursion up with a tour of the tuvuni fort. Our tour guide there was extremely knowledgeable and willing to answer all the random questions my husband and I had. The view from the burial ground is also breathtaking! Overall, I highly recommend this tour if you are looking for something outdoorsy with Fijian culture tied in.
