The Westerholm Path, inaugurated on June 14, 2014, is a delightful 2.8-kilometer trail that starts at the South Harbor in Nagu, in the heart of the Turku archipelago. This well-marked path, easily followed, presents a blend of natural beauty and historical context, making it a must-visit for nature enthusiasts and history buffs alike. The trail is dedicated to the artist and landscape painter Victor Westerholm, who spent his childhood summers in Nagu. Along the path, you'll find 14 informational signs in Swedish, Finnish, and English detailing Westerholm's life on Ernholm, as well as the history of Ernholm Island and Nagu. The path passes by Krogbron, believed to be the site of Nagu's first inn, and a small brick building known locally as Smedjan. The Westerholm Path leads to Jitukastberget, a hill 42 meters above sea level, offering a spectacular view. A tower on top of the hill makes the viewing point 48 meters high. For those who prefer an easier route, an alternative path bypasses the steeper climb to Jetukast. At the summit, you'll discover an ancient Bronze Age burial cairn, dating back to 1500-500 BC. The trail then descends from Jetukast, leading towards the historic Ernholm village before returning to Nagu Kyrkbacken via Krogbron.
