Discover more about Tove Jansson Park

Tove Jansson Park, located in the Katajanokka district of Helsinki, is a tribute to Tove Jansson, the celebrated creator of the Moomins. Originally established in 1897 as Katajanokka Park, designed by City Gardener Svante Olsson, the park was renamed in 2014 to honor the 100th anniversary of Jansson's birth. The park provides a picturesque view of the Uspenski Cathedral, the largest Orthodox church in Western Europe, with its striking golden cupolas. The park features a bronze statue called 'The Water Bearer' by Viktor Malmberg, adding a touch of classical elegance to the surroundings. The park is designed to connect different areas with varying elevations, featuring a children's playground, a dog park, and trees like birch and maple. In February 2025, the city council was considering a plan to add a Moomintroll statue and Moomin-themed illustrations to the playground, with the refurbishment aiming to enhance the park's theme in honor of Tove Jansson and the 80th anniversary of the Moomins, with a planned reopening in spring 2026. Tove Jansson Park embodies the spirit of creativity, nature, and community that Jansson herself represented.
