If you're traveling by car, start by heading to the nearest major city, Kuopio. From Kuopio, take Route 5 (E63) north towards Iisalmi. After about 50 km, take the exit towards Route 540 and turn left onto Korkeakoskentie. Follow Korkeakoskentie for about 20 km, and you will reach Korkeakoski Waterfall located at Korkeakoskentie 107, 71775 Tuovilanlahti. There is free parking available near the waterfall.
Public Transportation
If you prefer public transportation, take a bus from Kuopio to Iisalmi. Buses run regularly, and the journey takes about 1 hour. Once you arrive in Iisalmi, transfer to a local bus heading towards Tuovilanlahti. The local bus service may require checking the latest schedules, as they can vary. After arriving at the nearest stop to Korkeakoskentie (Tuovilanlahti), be prepared for a short walk of approximately 1-2 km to reach the waterfall. Make sure to check schedules for return trips.
Bicycle
For the more adventurous, biking from Kuopio to Korkeakoski Waterfall is a scenic option. The distance is about 70 km and can take approximately 4-5 hours depending on your pace. Take Route 5 (E63) north and then follow the same path as the car route. Ensure to wear appropriate cycling gear and carry sufficient water and snacks for the journey.
Walking
If you are already in the nearby area and prefer walking, you can hike to Korkeakoski Waterfall. The trails are well-marked, and the surroundings are picturesque. Depending on your starting point, walking paths can range from 5 km to 10 km. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and check the weather, as some trails can be muddy after rain.
