Getting There

  • Bus

    From downtown Gainesville, take the RTS bus number 1 (Blue Line) towards the 'Northwest' route. Stay on the bus until you reach the stop at 'SW 13th St & University Ave'. Transfer to bus number 75 (Micanopy Route) at this stop. This bus will take you directly toward Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park. Make sure to ask the driver to let you know when to get off for Paynes Prairie, as it can be an unmarked stop. The park entrance is located at 100 Savannah Blvd, Micanopy, FL 32667.

  • Bicycle

    If you prefer cycling, start at the University of Florida campus and head south on SW 13th St. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with US-441. Turn right onto US-441 and follow it for approximately 4 miles. There will be a designated bike lane. Keep an eye out for 'Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park' signs. Once you reach the park entrance at 100 Savannah Blvd, Micanopy, FL 32667, you can lock your bike at the visitor center.

  • Walking

    Walking to Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park from Gainesville is quite a trek, but it can be done. Start at the Gainesville City Hall and walk south to SW 13th St. Follow SW 13th St until you reach the intersection with US-441. At this point, you will be approximately 5 miles from the park. You can continue walking south along US-441, but be cautious as this road is busy. Your destination is the park entrance at 100 Savannah Blvd, Micanopy, FL 32667. Consider bringing water and sun protection, as this route can take around 2 hours or more.
