From there, you can either take a shuttle (when available) or drive in convoy with the tour guide to the Carrières de Bibémus. Note that access to the site by car is regulated, and a bollard restricts access on Chemin de Bibémus. Parking at Parking des 3 Bons Dieux is free. The shuttle, when available, costs €1 each way.

This 7-hectare rocky plateau, once a quarry for Aix's monuments, became Cézanne's open-air studio where he created 11 oil paintings and 16 watercolors between 1895 and 1904. The ochre-colored rocks and the views of Mont Sainte-Victoire provided the inspiration for his avant-garde style, which paved the way for Cubism.Quarrying at Bibémus dates back to Roman times, with its stone used to construct numerous buildings in Aix. By Cézanne's time, the quarries were largely abandoned, offering him a serene and solitary space to work. He rented a small cabin to store his materials and even sleep there.
