Getting There

• Walking

  If you are staying in the center of Alpe d'Huez, you can easily reach La grotte de glace on foot. Start at the main square (Place de l'Église) and head towards the 'Téléphérique de l'Alpe d'Huez' lift. Follow the signs leading to the mountain and ski lifts. After approximately 15-20 minutes of walking, you will arrive at a marked path that leads towards La grotte de glace. The path is well-maintained, and you will enjoy beautiful views along the way. The grotto is located near the top of the mountain, so dress appropriately for the weather.

• Cable Car

  For a quicker ascent, consider taking the cable car from Alpe d'Huez. Head to the 'Téléphérique de l'Alpe d'Huez' station in the center of town. Purchase a ticket for the cable car (prices vary, typically around €15 for a round trip). The ride takes about 15 minutes and offers stunning views. Once you arrive at the top, follow the signs to La grotte de glace, which is a short walk from the cable car station.

• Bus

  If you prefer public transportation, you can take a bus from nearby towns to Alpe d'Huez. The bus station is located near the center of Alpe d'Huez. From there, you can either walk to La grotte de glace or take the cable car as previously mentioned. Ensure to check the local bus schedules in advance, as they can vary by season.

• Car

  If you are driving to Alpe d'Huez, follow the signs for the D211 road. Once in Alpe d'Huez, you can park in designated parking areas in the town. From the parking area, either walk to the 'Téléphérique de l'Alpe d'Huez' for a scenic cable car ride or walk directly to La grotte de glace via the marked trails. Be aware that parking may incur a fee, so check for payment options.
