In 1834, while en route to Italy, Lord Brougham was forced to stop in Cannes due to a cholera outbreak. Captivated by the charm of the small fishing village and its coastline, he decided to settle there permanently.Lord Brougham's fondness for Cannes attracted other wealthy British citizens, who built luxurious villas and contributed to the city's growth. To commemorate his role in shaping modern Cannes, a statue was erected in his honor in 1879. The statue, created by sculptor Paul Lienard, is located in a square near the sea front that bears his name.The statue depicts Lord Brougham standing on a pedestal with a lion. It is situated in the Parc du Palais des Festivals, offering a picturesque backdrop for photographs. The surrounding area is filled with vibrant local life, charming streets, cafes, and bars, making it a popular spot for both tourists and locals.
