Lac Blanc Travel Guide

Lac Blanc, perched high above Chamonix at an altitude of 2,352 meters, is celebrated as one of the most beautiful alpine lakes in the region. Situated on the opposite side of the valley from Mont Blanc, it provides unparalleled views of the entire mountain range, stretching over 22 kilometers from Le Tour to Les Houches.In the summer, the area becomes a haven for hikers and nature enthusiasts. The lake's calm, clear waters create a perfect mirror image of Mont Blanc and the surrounding snowy peaks. The area is also part of the Aiguilles Rouges National Reserve, home to local wildlife such as ibex, chamois, and marmots.There are several routes to reach Lac Blanc, catering to different fitness levels. The most direct route involves taking a cable car from Les Praz to La Flégère, followed by a hike. Other trails start from Col des Montets or Tré-le-Champ, offering more challenging but equally rewarding experiences. Once at the lake, visitors can enjoy the views and relax at the Refuge du Lac Blanc, a mountain hut offering meals and accommodation.
