Place de la Cathédrale is located in the heart of Colmar, and is a vibrant square that seamlessly blends history, architecture, and local life. The centerpiece of the square is the Cathédrale Saint-Martin, a collegiate church that stands as an example of Gothic architecture in Alsace. Built between 1235 and 1365, it features intricate stonework and stained-glass windows. Although referred to as a cathedral, it was only officially a cathedral for about ten years during the French Revolution. The south tower was damaged by fire in 1572, and was later replaced with a lantern bulb, giving the church its silhouette.
