Hike the inspiring Nietzsche Path from Èze-sur-Mer to the medieval village of Èze, where stunning Mediterranean views meet philosophical history on this challenging and rewarding trail.
The Nietzsche Path, or *Chemin de Nietzsche*, is a scenic hiking trail connecting Èze-sur-Mer to the medieval village of Èze. Named after the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, who frequented the path in the late 19th century and found inspiration for his work *Thus Spoke Zarathustra* here, the trail offers a challenging yet rewarding climb with stunning views of the Mediterranean coastline. The path winds through varied terrain, from arid, sun-drenched stretches to lush, shaded vegetation, providing a sensory experience as you ascend. The well-maintained path is steep and rocky in places, making it a popular choice for hikers seeking both physical exertion and natural beauty. Upon reaching Èze, explore the village's charming cobblestone streets, art galleries, and the renowned Jardin Exotique.

Walking
The Nietzsche Path trailhead is easily accessible from the Èze-sur-Mer train station. Upon exiting the station, walk east along Avenue Raymond Poincaré (also known as Basse Corniche) for approximately 5 minutes (about 200 meters). The trailhead is located on the mountain side of the road, marked with a wooden sign indicating 'Village d'Eze, Par Sentier – Ch F Nietzsche'. There is parking available near the train station. From the sign, the path ascends directly towards Èze village.
Public Transport
If arriving by bus from Nice or Monaco, take either bus #82 or #602 to the 'Eze Village' stop. From the bus stop in Èze village, follow signs towards the Nietzsche Path (Chemin de Nietzsche). The path begins its descent (or ascent, depending on your direction) near the entrance of the Jardin Exotique. Bus #82 and #602 cost €1.70 per journey if using a Nice rechargeable bus card. Buying a ticket from the driver costs €4. Note that on Sundays and French holidays, only bus #82 runs, and on a limited schedule.
Train and Bus
Alternatively, take the train to Eze-sur-Mer station. From there, you can either hike up the Nietzsche Path (allow 1.5 hours) or take bus #83 to Eze Village. Bus #83 runs infrequently, so check the timetable in advance. A single ticket on bus #83 costs approximately €1.70. The train from Nice to Eze-sur-Mer costs around €3.50.
