Discover more about Chapelle des Élus

The Chapelle des Élus, also known as the Chapel of the Condés, is a hidden gem located within the Palais des Ducs de Bourgogne in Dijon. Constructed between 1738 and 1739 during the reign of Louis XV, it stands as one of the most interesting buildings of that era due to its unique design and decor. The chapel was designed in the Rocaille (Rococo) style. The chapel's monumental and decorative elements are attributed to Jacques Gabriel, the king's architect, who modified the original plans by Pierre le Mousseux. The interior features lavish sculpted decorations of liturgical objects by Dijon artist Claude Saint Pierre, reminiscent of the chapel at the Château de Versailles. The marble altar is a remarkable piece created by Florentine architect and decorator Servandoni, known for his contribution to the Baroque style. The decorations were completed in 1743 with marble ornaments by Spingola and woodwork by Jacques Verberckt, a Flemish sculptor and decorator attached to the King's apartments at Versailles. Visitors can access the Chapelle des Élus through the Dijon Tourist Office at 11 Rue des Forges.
