Getting There

• Walking

  If you are already in Montmartre, one of the best ways to explore is by walking. Begin at the iconic Sacré-Cœur Basilica located at the highest point in the area. From there, head down the steps towards Rue des Saules. This picturesque street is lined with charming houses and will lead you to the famous Moulin de la Galette. Continue walking along Rue des Saules until you reach Boulevard de Clichy, where you can find various cafes and shops. Make sure to take in the beautiful views of the city as you stroll along the cobblestone streets.

• Metro

  To reach Montmartre via metro, take Line 2 (the blue line) to the 'Pigalle' station or Line 12 (the green line) to 'Abbesses'. From Pigalle, exit towards Boulevard de Clichy, and walk uphill towards the Sacré-Cœur, which is a 15-minute walk. Alternatively, from Abbesses, take the stairs up to the station exit, and you’ll find yourself just a short walk from the basilica. Note that a single metro ticket costs €1.90.

• Funicular

  If you prefer an easier ascent to the top of Montmartre, consider taking the Montmartre Funicular. This funicular railway connects the base of the hill to the Sacré-Cœur Basilica. It is located near the Anvers metro station (Line 2). The funicular ride is free if you have a valid metro ticket or travel pass. Otherwise, a single ticket for the funicular is €1.90.

• Bus

  Bus Line 30 or 31 can take you close to Montmartre. Board the bus at any nearby stop and disembark at 'Porte de Clignancourt' for a short walk to the area. The bus fare is also €1.90, and it offers a scenic route through the neighborhood.
