If you're traveling by car, set your GPS to 'Quartier, Hiribehere, 64640 Saint-Martin-d'Arberoue'. From the central region of the Pyrenees, take the A64 highway towards Bayonne. Exit at Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port (exit 7) and follow the D933 road towards Saint-Martin-d'Arberoue. The drive should take approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, depending on traffic. Parking is available near the cave entrances.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take a regional train from major cities like Pau or Biarritz to Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port. From the train station, you can catch a local bus (Line 815) that heads towards Saint-Martin-d'Arberoue. Make sure to check the bus schedule in advance as they may not run frequently. The entire journey via public transport may take around 2 to 3 hours.
Walking
If you arrive at Saint-Martin-d'Arberoue and prefer a more scenic route, the caves are approximately a 30-minute walk from the village center. Follow the D933 road, and then take a right onto a local path leading directly to the caves. Ensure to wear comfortable shoes as the terrain may be uneven.
Taxi or Rideshare
For a more direct route from nearby towns, you can hire a taxi or use a rideshare service. Taxis are available in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port and can take you directly to the caves for a fee that typically ranges from €20 to €30, depending on the distance and time of day.
