Discover more about Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie

The Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie (City of Science and Industry) is a sprawling science museum in the 19th arrondissement of Paris, within the Parc de la Villette. Since opening in 1986, it has become one of the most visited museums in France, attracting millions with its interactive exhibits designed to make science accessible to everyone. The museum's origins lie in the reconversion of the former slaughterhouses of La Villette, a project initiated by President Valéry Giscard d'Estaing. Architect Adrien Fainsilber transformed the auction hall into a modern, light-filled structure of glass and steel, playing with water, vegetation and light. The Cité is divided into several distinct areas : * **Explora:** The heart of the museum, featuring permanent and temporary exhibitions on diverse scientific themes. * **Cité des Enfants:** Two spaces designed for children aged 2-7 and 5-12, offering hands-on exhibits and activities. * **Planetarium:** An immersive space for exploring the universe. * **La Géode:** A striking IMAX theater housed in a giant mirrored sphere. The museum aims to promote scientific and technical culture, encouraging visitors to engage with science and technology through experimentation and play. It also addresses ethical and societal issues related to scientific progress.
