Oasis d'Aboukir: A Vertical Garden in Paris

The Oasis d'Aboukir, located at 83 Rue d'Aboukir in Paris, is a remarkable example of urban greening. This vertical garden, conceived by Patrick Blanc, the inventor of the modern vertical hydroponics garden, covers a large wall with over 7,600 plants from 237 different species. Created in 2013 for Paris Design Week, the Oasis d'Aboukir transformed a once-ordinary building facade into a thriving ecosystem. The wall spans 25 meters in height and 250 square meters in area, creating a striking contrast to the surrounding urban environment. The selection of plants, including ficus, geraniums, and fuchsias, creates a diverse tapestry of colors and textures that changes with the seasons. The garden is automatically watered every four hours and requires annual pruning to maintain its health and prevent it from overwhelming the area. Besides its aesthetic appeal, the Oasis d'Aboukir contributes to the local environment by improving air quality and promoting biodiversity.
