The Théâtre du Châtelet is a prominent theater and opera house situated on the Place du Châtelet in the 1st arrondissement of Paris. Designed by architect Gabriel Davioud and constructed between 1860 and 1862, it was commissioned by Baron Haussmann as part of Napoleon III's urban renewal project to transform Paris into a leading European capital. The theater was built to replace the old Théâtre de la Ville.
The Théâtre du Châtelet boasts a neo-Renaissance facade adorned with sculptures and reliefs, while the interior is decorated in a neo-Baroque style with frescoes and sculptures. The theater has a seating capacity of approximately 2,000-2,500. Throughout its history, the Théâtre du Châtelet has hosted a wide variety of performances, including military works, fairy tale plays, operettas, ballets, classical music concerts, and popular music concerts. Notably, Jules Verne's "Around the World in 80 Days" had a long run at the theater, spanning 64 years and 2,195 performances.
In recent years, the Théâtre du Châtelet has shifted its focus towards musical theater, staging Parisian adaptations of Broadway musicals such as "Kiss Me, Kate," "Singin' in the Rain," and "An American in Paris". The Théâtre du Châtelet is easily accessible via the Paris Métro and RER. The closest Métro station is Châtelet, served by lines 1, 4, 7, 11, and 14. The Châtelet-Les Halles station, served by RER lines A, B, and D, is also within walking distance. A single Métro/RER ticket costs €2.50 and can be used on both the Métro and RER within Paris.

The Théâtre du Châtelet is located in a central area of Paris and is easily reachable by foot from many popular locations. From the Louvre Museum, walk east along the Quai du Louvre, then cross the Pont au Change to reach the Place du Châtelet. The walk is approximately 10 minutes. From Notre Dame Cathedral, walk west across the Pont d'Arcole or Pont Notre-Dame to reach the Place du Châtelet. This walk takes about 5 minutes.
