From Papeete, take the main highway (Route de Ceinture) towards the east coast. Continue on this road until you reach the town of Taravao. From Taravao, follow signs towards the village of Opoa. Once in Opoa, follow the signs to Marae Taputapuatea. The road is well-marked and easy to follow.

From Papeete, take a bus or a shared taxi (known as a 'truck') towards the east coast. Get off at the town of Taravao and transfer to another bus or taxi that goes to the village of Opoa.
