Mount Mimongo, locally called Mt. Songo, is one of the notable peaks within the Chaillu Mountains of Gabon. Reaching an elevation of 860 meters (2,822 feet), the mountain is situated 20 kilometers east of the town of Mimongo and within walking distance of Dibandi village. The area's exploration dates back to Paul Du Chaillu's expeditions between 1855 and 1865.The mountain is part of the Chaillu Massif, a granite range that forms a significant watershed in Gabon between the Ngounié and Ogooué rivers. This massif is named in honor of Paul du Chaillu, who documented the mountains during his travels along the Ngounié River.Mount Mimongo is also known for its unique flora. *Pararistolochia incisiloba* is a plant species endemic to Mt. Mimongo. It's also the only location on mainland Africa where *Begonia thomeana* is found.While Gabon is known for its ecotourism potential, with a focus on national parks and wildlife , Mount Mimongo offers a more rugged and less developed experience. Visitors can appreciate the natural environment and the views from this point in the Chaillu range.
