Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, head towards Franceville, the capital of the Haut-Ogooué Province. From Franceville, take the N1 highway towards Moanda. After about 30 kilometers, look for signs indicating the turnoff to Chutes de Poubara. The falls are approximately 15 kilometers from the main road. Follow the dirt road signs; the last stretch may require a 4x4 vehicle due to rough terrain. Ensure you have a map or GPS for navigation.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, start by taking a bus from Franceville to Moanda. Buses frequently leave from the central bus station in Franceville. Once you arrive in Moanda, hire a local taxi or arrange a shared taxi (known as a 'clando') to take you to Chutes de Poubara. The taxi ride will take approximately 30 minutes, and you should negotiate the fare beforehand. Expect to pay around 5,000-10,000 CFA Francs for the ride.

• Hiking/Walking

  For the adventurous, you can start from the nearest village to the falls, which is about 5 kilometers away. After taking public transport or driving to the village, you can hike to the falls. The hike is relatively easy but may require a local guide. It takes about 1-2 hours to reach the falls from the village, depending on your pace. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and carry enough water.
