    Getting There

    Car

    From Gudauri, head north on the main road (E117) for approximately 15 kilometers until you reach the village of Ketrisi. Look for signs indicating Truso Valley and turn onto the road leading into the valley. Continue along this road for about 5 kilometers until you reach the parking area near the travertines. Note that the road may be unpaved in some sections, so be cautious. Parking is free.

    Public Transport

    Take a marshrutka (minibus) from Gudauri to the village of Ketrisi. Marshrutkas frequently depart from the central area of Gudauri. The fare is typically around 5 GEL. From Ketrisi, you may need to walk or find a local taxi to take you the remaining 5 kilometers to the Truso travertines. Be prepared for some walking, as local taxis may not always be readily available. A taxi from Ketrisi to the travertines may cost around 20-30 GEL.

    The Ketrisi Travertines, also known as Truso Travertines Natural Monument, are a mesmerizing geological wonder nestled in the Truso Valley within the Khevi region of Kazbegi Municipality, Georgia. Located approximately 2 km from Keterisi village, these calcareous sinter formations sit at an elevation of 2093 meters above sea level on the right bank of the Terek River. Formed by carbonate minerals precipitating out of ambient temperature water, the travertines create a series of striking terraces and vibrant mineral pools. The mineral-rich waters have sculpted the landscape over time, resulting in a breathtaking display of natural art. The area is surrounded by the majestic Caucasus Mountains, offering stunning views and a tranquil atmosphere. The travertines themselves are often covered with a thin layer of transparent water, adding to their ethereal beauty. The diverse and beautiful natural environment of the Truso Gorge has earned it the nickname of "Geological museum". Visitors can explore the travertines and the surrounding Truso Valley, known for its abandoned villages, ancient towers, and remnants of fortifications. The valley lies in close proximity to the South Ossetia border. Once home to the highest village in Georgia, Resi, at 2400 meters above sea level, the area is steeped in history and cultural significance. The Truso Valley is part of the Kazbegi Protected Areas, which include the Kazbegi National Park and other natural monuments such as Sakhizari Cliff, Abano Mineral Lake, Jvari Pass Travertine, and Keterisi Mineral Vaucluse.
