Public Transport
To reach Lake Ganisi using public transport, start from Tbilisi and take a minibus (marshrutka) to Kazbegi (Stepantsminda). Minibusses depart regularly from Didube bus station in Tbilisi, with a journey time of approximately 2-3 hours and a cost of around 10-12 GEL. From Kazbegi, you can hire a local taxi or arrange for a driver to take you to Lake Ganisi, which is located near the village of Ganisi. This final leg of the journey may cost around 20-30 GEL, depending on your negotiation skills.
Taxi
Alternatively, you can hire a taxi directly from Tbilisi to Lake Ganisi, which offers a more comfortable but also more expensive option. The journey takes around 2-3 hours, depending on traffic, and can cost between 150-200 GEL. Be sure to negotiate the price beforehand. Once in Ganisi, the lake is easily accessible by foot.
Driving
If driving from Tbilisi, take the Georgian Military Highway (E117) towards Kazbegi. The drive is approximately 150 km and takes about 2-3 hours. The road is generally in good condition, but be prepared for some winding mountain roads. Once you reach the village of Ganisi, there are limited parking options available. From there, it's a short walk to the lake. Note that fuel costs for the round trip could be around 50-70 GEL. Parking is free but limited.
