Getting There

    From Gudauri, drive east on the E117 towards Tbilisi. After approximately 15 km, look for a sign indicating the turn-off to Tkarsheti. Take the smaller, winding road to Tkarsheti for about 8 km until you reach the base of Ortsveri Mountain. Limited parking is available near the trailhead. Due to the winding nature of the roads, allow extra travel time. Consider hiring a local driver if you are not comfortable driving on mountain roads.

    The most common approach to Ortsveri is from Stepantsminda. Begin by hiking to the Gergeti Trinity Church, which takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours. From there, continue towards the Meteo Station (Bethlemi Hut) at 3650 meters. This segment takes about 3-4 hours. From the Meteo Station, cross the Gergeti Glacier (requires ropes, glacier gear, and experience) to reach the base of Ortsveri. The climb to the summit from here takes another 4-5 hours. Glacier crossing requires caution due to crevasses.
