Walking
Start at Freedom Square, which is a central location in Tbilisi. From Freedom Square, head southeast on Rustaveli Avenue towards the historic district. Continue straight until you reach the roundabout at the end of Rustaveli Avenue. Take the second exit onto Tamar Mepe Street. Follow Tamar Mepe Street as it turns into Kote Afkhazi Street. Continue walking until you reach the Metekhi Bridge. Cross the Metekhi Bridge, enjoying the views of the river and the city. Once across, turn left and walk along the riverbank towards the Old Town. Follow the path that leads to the entrance of Narikala Fortress, which is located on a hill above the Old Town.
Cable Car
You can also take a cable car to Narikala Fortress for a scenic experience. From the Old Town area, make your way to Rike Park, located by the river. Look for the cable car station marked with signs. Purchase a ticket at the kiosk and board the cable car. The ride will take you directly to the fortress, offering stunning views of Tbilisi and the surrounding area. Once you arrive at the top, you will find yourself at Narikala Fortress, ready to explore.
Public Transport
If you prefer to use public transport, take the Metro from any station in Tbilisi to the Avlabari station. When you exit the station, head towards the main road and turn left to walk towards the river. Continue walking until you reach the Metekhi Bridge. Cross the bridge and follow the same path as described in the walking option. Alternatively, you can catch a taxi or use a rideshare app to get to the base of the fortress for a small fee.
