The winery is renowned for its unique wine tunnels, carved into the Caucasus Mountains, which provide the perfect environment for aging and storing wine. The history of Khareba Winery is intertwined with Georgia's long and storied winemaking tradition, dating back 8,000 years. The winery itself was established in 2004, but the wine tunnels have been around since the 1950s when they were originally built as a military facility. In 1962, the tunnels were opened to the public for the World Wine Congress. Today, the tunnels stretch for 7.7 kilometers and consist of two main tunnels connected by 13 smaller ones. Visitors to Khareba Winery can take guided tours of the tunnels, learn about traditional Georgian winemaking methods, and sample a variety of the winery's finest wines. The winery produces 70 types of wine from 30 local and international grape varieties. Wine tasting tours are available, offering visitors the chance to taste several different varieties of Khareba wines. In addition to the wine tunnels, Khareba Winery features a large recreational park with a river, ancient pitchers, an old Georgian water mill, a traditional bread bakery, and more. Guests can also participate in masterclasses where they can learn to bake traditional Georgian bread, make churchkhela (a traditional Georgian candy), and cook khinkali (dumplings) and khachapuri (cheese bread).
