Vaziani Winery: A Blend of Tradition and Modernity

Vaziani Winery, situated in the heart of Telavi, Kakheti, is a testament to Georgia's enduring winemaking traditions. Founded in 1982 on the base of Telavi Winery No. 1, it carries a rich history as a successor to Georgian wine production. In 2012, the winery was modernized, blending its heritage with state-of-the-art Italian equipment and non-corrosive metal reservoirs to ensure high-quality production. Vaziani is particularly known for its Qvevri wines, produced using the traditional Georgian method that dates back 8,000 years. This method involves fermenting and aging wine in large clay vessels buried underground, a practice recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The winery is closely linked to the Prince Makashvili family, whose legacy continues through these exquisite wines. Visitors to Vaziani Winery can take guided tours of the vineyards and cellars, learning about the unique grape varieties native to the Kakheti region, such as Saperavi, Rkatsiteli, and Mtsvane.
