Getting There

  • Walking

    From the parking area at the Elmaubach, follow the well-maintained forest road (Fürstenweg) into the Elmaubach valley. After about 3.4 kilometers, you'll reach a wood storage area on a meadow. Shortly before the road descends, an unmarked path branches off to the right, leading into the forest. This path ascends steadily, eventually leading to the Kuchelberg-Diensthütte. From the hut, a steeper trail leads to the Kuchelbergspitze. There are no fees for accessing the trail.

  • Public Transport

    From Garmisch-Partenkirchen, take bus line 9606 to Ettal Klostergasthof. From there, you can walk to the Elmaubach parking area, the starting point for the hike to Kuchelbergspitze. Bus fare from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Ettal is approximately €6-9. Check local bus schedules for accurate timings.

  • Car

    From Munich, take the A95 towards Garmisch-Partenkirchen. At the Murnau/Kochel exit, continue on the B2 to Oberau, then take the B23 to Ettal. From Ettal, follow signs to the Elmaubach parking area, which is the starting point for the hike. Parking is available at Elmaubach. Parking costs are not available.
