Getting There

    The final approach to Watzmann Südspitze involves a challenging hike from the Wimbachgries valley. From the Wimbachbrücke bus stop, follow the trail through the Wimbachklamm gorge (small entrance fee required). Continue into the Wimbachgries, and then ascend towards the Watzmannhaus. From the Watzmannhaus, the route to the Südspitze involves exposed and challenging climbing, requiring proper equipment and experience. This final section can take 3-5 hours depending on conditions and fitness levels. No costs are associated with the final walking segment, beyond the Wimbachklamm entrance fee.

    To reach the Wimbachbrücke trailhead, take bus 841 or 842 from Berchtesgaden Hauptbahnhof (main train station) to the Wimbachbrücke stop. The bus ride takes approximately 15-20 minutes.
