Hohenbaden Castle: A Ruined Majesty

High above the elegant spa town of Baden-Baden, the evocative ruins of Hohenbaden Castle, or Altes Schloss, stand as a testament to centuries of history and power. Built around 1100 by Margrave Hermann II, Hohenbaden served as the primary residence of the Margraves of Baden until 1479, when the court moved to the more comfortable Neues Schloss (New Castle) in the town below. The beer garden typically opens in May, with the restaurant following later in the month. Hohenbaden Castle is easily accessible by car, with parking available near the entrance.
