If you are starting from Essen Hauptbahnhof (Essen Central Station), take tram line 107 towards 'Gelsenkirchen Buer.' After approximately 10 minutes, get off at the 'Gelsenkirchener Str.' stop. From there, you will see a large sign for the Red Dot Design Museum. Walk straight for about 5 minutes along Gelsenkirchener Strasse, and you will arrive at the museum located at Gelsenkirchener Str. 181. The total journey should take around 15-20 minutes.

If you are near the city center, walk towards the Grugapark. From the park entrance, head towards the main road, Gelsenkirchener Str. Once you reach the main road, turn right and continue walking straight for approximately 30 minutes. The Red Dot Design Museum will be on your left at Gelsenkirchener Str. 181. This is a pleasant walk, and you can enjoy the surroundings.
Bus
From the city center or a nearby location, find the nearest bus stop for lines 140 or 141. Board the bus heading towards 'Kettwig' or 'Buer' respectively. Get off at the 'Gelsenkirchener Str. / Mülheimer Str.' stop. From there, it's a short 5-minute walk to the museum. Just walk straight down Gelsenkirchener Strasse, and you will see the museum on your left at Gelsenkirchener Str. 181. The total travel time is around 20-25 minutes.
