Schloss Borbeck: A Baroque Jewel in Essen

The quarry stone masonry of its core building rises on a 16 × 18 meter measuring ground plan and was built in the middle of the 17th century. To the south, it is adjoined by a five-window-axis extension, the construction of which probably began in 1744. The gabled roof of the building has a row of dormers on both roof slopes. At the southern end of its ridge stands a roof turret with a small bell. At both corners of the north facade rise four-story corner towers, which are completed by a curved hood with octagonal lantern. In 1941, the City of Essen acquired Schloss Borbeck, recognizing its historical and cultural value. Since then, the castle has been transformed into a vibrant cultural center, hosting a diverse range of events and activities.
