It was named Goebenplatz during the Wilhelminian period before finally receiving its current name in 1946 to honor Joseph Görres, a Koblenz publicist and historian. The History Column stands approximately 10.59 meters tall and weighs 3.6 tons. Created by sculptor Jürgen Weber from Braunschweig, the column is crafted from bronze and visually narrates the city's history through ten meticulously crafted, three-dimensional scenes arranged one above the other.
