If you are traveling by car, head towards the A40 motorway. Exit at 'Essen-Kray' and follow the signs for 'Zollverein'. Continue on Gladbecker Str. and then take a left onto Katernberger Str. After approximately 1 kilometer, turn right onto Hans-Böckler-Straße. Follow this road until you reach the entrance to the UNESCO-Welterbe Zollverein, where Shaft 1/2/8 is located. Parking is available on-site, but be sure to check for any parking fees.
Public Transportation - Tram
To reach Shaft 1/2/8 via public transportation, take tram line 107 or 108 from the center of Essen. If you are near the Essen Hauptbahnhof (main train station), you can board tram line 107 towards 'Gelsenkirchen-Buer.' Get off at the 'Zollverein' stop. From there, it's about a 10-minute walk following the signs for UNESCO-Welterbe Zollverein. Make sure to purchase a ticket before boarding; single journey tickets cost approximately €2.90.
Public Transportation - Bus
Alternatively, you can take bus line 142 from Essen’s central bus station (ZOB). Board the bus heading towards 'Kray' and get off at the 'Zollverein' stop. From this bus stop, follow the pedestrian signs to reach Shaft 1/2/8, which is about a 5-minute walk. Remember to buy a bus ticket before you board; a single journey ticket will cost around €2.90.
