Auf der Humpfert: Nature and History Combined

Auf der Humpfert, located near Iserlohn in the Märkischer Kreis district, is a captivating nature preserve that seamlessly blends natural beauty with historical intrigue. Undeterred, the SGV Letmathe erected a second wooden tower in 1892, which eventually had to be demolished in 1907 due to termite damage. Determined to create a more enduring structure, the community decided to build a tower made of iron. The construction of the Humpfert Tower was a collaborative effort, with contributions from the Letmathe community. A bazaar was organized to raise funds, generating approximately 2,000 marks. Additional donations were received from the SGV Letmathe, the Amt Hohenlimburg, and local Letmathe businesses. The steel framework tower was inaugurated on June 21, 1908, symbolizing the community's commitment to preserving their natural and historical heritage. Unfortunately, the Humpfert Tower is currently closed to the public due to structural defects that require a new construction. Despite this temporary setback, the surrounding nature preserve remains open for exploration, offering visitors a chance to experience the beauty of the Sauerland region.
