Car
If you are driving, start from Wa, the capital of the Upper West Region. Head north on the N11 road towards Wechiau. After approximately 30 km, you will reach the junction for Wechiau. Take a right turn at the junction and continue straight for about 10 km until you reach Wechiau. The sanctuary is located near the village center. Please note that the roads may be unpaved and bumpy in some sections, so drive cautiously.

Public Transportation (Shared Taxi)
From Wa, you can take a shared taxi to Wechiau. Head to the central taxi station in Wa and look for taxis heading to Wechiau. The fare is typically around 15 GHS per person. The journey will take about 45 minutes to 1 hour depending on road conditions. Inform the driver that you want to go to the Wechiau Hippo Sanctuary. They may drop you off at the village center, which is close to the sanctuary.

Alternatively, you can take a bus from Wa to Wechiau. Look for buses heading to Wechiau at the Wa bus station. The bus fare is usually around 10 GHS and the travel time is approximately 1 hour. Once you arrive in Wechiau, you can walk to the sanctuary, which is about a 15-minute walk from the bus stop in the village center.

If you are already in Wechiau village, the sanctuary is easily accessible on foot. From the village center, head towards the river; the sanctuary is located near the riverbank. Look for local signs or ask villagers for directions to ensure you reach the entrance of the Wechiau Hippo Sanctuary.
