Getting There

  • Walking

    If you are already within the Upper Rock Nature Reserve, follow the well-marked trails towards 'Old Queen's Road,' a scenic route through the reserve. The walk from the main entrance of the reserve to Apes' Den takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes.

  • Public Transport

    Take a bus that services Gibraltar's main areas and disembark at the nearest bus stop to the entrance of the Gibraltar Nature Reserve. From there, walk towards the reserve entrance and follow the trails marked towards Apes' Den. Bus fare is approximately £1.00 per ride. Note that bus routes 4 and 9 will take you to the Cable Car base station. The bus stop you must look out for, is called Alameda House and stops just outside the Cable Car base Station.

  • Cable Car

    The easiest way to reach Apes' Den is by taking the cable car from the base station near Alameda Gardens. Purchase a Nature Reserve ticket, which includes access to Apes' Den. Take the cable car to the top station and walk down through the Nature Reserve towards Apes' Den. Alternatively, during certain months, the cable car may stop at the Middle Station, which is located at Apes' Den. A Nature Reserve Ticket costs £30.00 for adults and £22.00 for children (ages 5 – 11).

  • Taxi

    Taxis are available at the Gibraltar airport and the frontier with Spain. A taxi tour to the Upper Rock, including Apes' Den, St. Michael's Cave, and the Great Siege Tunnels, typically costs around £22-25 per person. Alternatively, a private taxi tour for up to 6 people costs £360. Ensure the taxi has a permit to enter the Nature Reserve.
