Discover more about Military Heritage Centre

The Military Heritage Centre, situated in the former Princess Caroline's Battery, provides a comprehensive overview of Gibraltar's military history. Constructed in 1732 and named after King George II's third daughter, the battery itself saw action during the Great Siege of Gibraltar. The center's exhibits showcase a wide array of military relics dating from the 18th century to the present. Visitors can explore weapons, shells, and other artifacts that illustrate the evolution of military technology and Gibraltar's role in various conflicts. A highlight includes a recreation of a World War II-era bunker, offering a glimpse into the daily lives of soldiers during the war. The center also features a memorial chamber dedicated to the Royal Air Force, the Royal Navy, and British Regiments that have served in Gibraltar. Princess Caroline's Battery, which houses the Military Heritage Centre, has undergone several transformations throughout its history. In 1871, it was equipped with a 9-inch rifled muzzle loading gun, and in 1905, it was refurbished to accommodate a 6-inch Mark VII gun. Although the guns have since been removed, the battery's machinery and utensils remain in place, adding to the historical ambiance of the site.
