Wellington Front, located in Gibraltar, is a significant historical site with roots stretching back to the Moorish period. The current structure was built in 1840, named in honor of the Duke of Wellington. Major-General John Thomas Jones proposed the reinforcement of the fortifications on this site, and following a redesign in 1845, the Front was reconstructed.Constructed by convict labor, Wellington Front formed part of the Line Wall Curtain, strengthening the city's defenses. It addressed weaknesses in the original Moorish wall, providing better protection against bombardment. During World War I, it served as the headquarters for the Gibraltar Defence Force.
