Legend has it that his body was preserved in a barrel of alcohol for the journey home. The focal point of Nelson's Anchorage is the 100-Ton Gun, a massive Victorian-era supergun built in the 1870s. This impressive piece of artillery, also known as 'The Rockbuster', was designed to protect the entrances to the commercial harbor and the Royal Naval Dockyard in Rosia Bay. Only two such guns remain in the world, with the other located in Malta. The gun could fire every four minutes and engage a target up to eight miles away. Visitors to Nelson's Anchorage can explore the historical plaques detailing the naval engagements and strategic importance of Gibraltar.
