Getting there

Walking

From the center of Chania's Old Town, most attractions are easily accessible on foot. The Venetian Harbor, the Archaeological Museum, and the narrow streets of Kastelli are all within a short walking distance. Be aware that some streets are pedestrian-only. Comfortable shoes are recommended due to the uneven terrain.

Public Transport

Chania's public transportation network consists of urban buses that connect the city center with surrounding areas. The main bus station is located on Kidonias & Parth. Kelaidi Street. From there, you can take a bus to various destinations within the Chania region. A single ticket for Zone A (city center) costs €1.20 if purchased in advance or €2 if purchased on the bus. Zone B tickets, for more remote areas, cost €1.60 in advance or €2.50 on the bus.

Taxi

Taxis are readily available in Chania, especially in central locations like the port and the airport. You can find taxi stands near the Venetian Harbor and other popular tourist spots. A taxi ride from the airport to Chania town costs approximately €25-€30. Within the city, short taxi trips typically range from €12-€15. Always confirm the fare with the driver before starting your journey.

Ferry

Chania is connected to the mainland of Greece via ferry. Ferries depart from the port of Souda, located about 6 km east of Chania. You can reach Souda port by bus or taxi from Chania town. Ferry services connect Chania with Piraeus (Athens). The ferry journey takes approximately 8-9 hours. Ticket prices vary depending on the ferry company and type of ticket, but typically range from €40-€80. There are also ferries to the Cyclades Islands, such as Milos.
