Discover more about Municipal Railway Park of Kalamata

The Municipal Railway Park of Kalamata offers a nostalgic journey into Greece's railway past. Established in 1986 on the site of the old Kalamata-Limin (Port) station, the park spans 5.4 hectares, creating a unique open-air museum. The park's creation followed an initiative by the mayor at the time, Stavros Benos, but its completion was delayed until 1990 due to a destructive earthquake. The park features a diverse collection of railway exhibits, largely provided by the Hellenic Railways Organisation (OSE), including steam engines, diesel wagons, passenger cars, and freight wagons. One notable exhibit is a Baume Marpent wooden ISAP locomotive dating back to 1914. The park also displays railway infrastructure elements such as a water tower, platforms, and a metal footbridge. Beyond its historical exhibits, the park serves as a recreational space with sports facilities, playgrounds, and a refreshment room in the renovated station building. The park provides a green haven and a place for both locals and tourists to relax and explore. The park is known as the only one of its kind in Greece.
