Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, start at the nearest town, Ouranoupoli, which is the gateway to Mount Athos. Take the road that leads to the border of Mount Athos, where you will need to stop at the entrance to obtain a special permit to enter the area. This permit costs approximately €25 and is necessary for all visitors. After securing your permit, continue driving along the scenic roads of Mount Athos. Follow the signs towards the monasteries, as they will lead you to the viewpoint. The journey will take about 30-45 minutes, depending on your exact starting point and traffic conditions.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, take a bus from Thessaloniki to Ouranoupoli. The bus journey takes around 2.5 hours and costs about €15. Once you arrive in Ouranoupoli, you can either rent a car or take a taxi to the entrance of Mount Athos to obtain your permit, which costs €25. After obtaining your permit, you can either drive or hire a taxi to reach the viewpoint, following the same scenic roads towards the monasteries.

• Walking

  If you are already within Mount Athos and wish to walk to the viewpoint, start from the nearest monastery or settlement. Follow the marked trails that lead to the various viewpoints. The trails can be steep and may take several hours, so make sure to wear sturdy footwear and carry water. Ensure you have a map or a guide, as some paths can be less clearly marked.
