Frangokastelo Beach: A Serene Coastal Gem in Sfakia

Getting There

• Bus

  From the center of Rethymno, head to the main bus station, which is located on 28th October Street. Look for the KTEL bus terminal. Purchase a ticket to Sfakia; the buses to Sfakia typically leave every 1-2 hours. Once you're on the bus, sit back and enjoy the scenic ride along the coast, which takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes. The bus will drop you off in the village of Sfakia. From there, follow the signs towards Frangokastelo beach, which is approximately a 15-20 minute walk from the bus stop.

• Taxi

  If you prefer a more direct route, you can take a taxi from Rethymno to Frangokastelo beach. You can find taxis near the main bus station or call one from your accommodation. The ride will take around 1 hour and will cost approximately 60-70 euros. Make sure to confirm the price with the driver before starting your journey.

• Hiking

  For the adventurous, you can hike from Rethymno to Frangokastelo beach. Start from the old town of Rethymno and head towards the coast. Follow the coastal path towards the south, which will lead you through beautiful landscapes and small villages. The hike will take approximately 3-4 hours depending on your pace. Make sure to bring water and sun protection, as there are limited shaded areas along the way.
