Mikrasiaton Square, located in the heart of Rethymno's Old Town, has been the city's largest square since 2007. Its name honors the inhabitants of Minor Asia (Mikrasiates) who sought refuge in Rethymno after the population exchange established by the Lausanne Convention. These refugees were accommodated in the square, marking a significant moment in the city's history.The square is surrounded by architectural jewels from the Venetian and Ottoman periods.
