Driving

Most visitors drive to the Nida Plateau, which serves as a common starting point for hikes to the summit. From Heraklion, the drive to Anogeia village takes approximately 1 hour, and Nida Plateau is a short drive from there. The roads are generally in good condition but expect some narrow sections. Parking is available at Nida Plateau. Car rentals are available in Heraklion. Driving from Rethymno, take the road towards Anogeia. The drive is approximately 1.5 hours. Follow signs to Nida Plateau.
Public Transport

While public transport directly to Nida Plateau is limited, you can take a bus from Heraklion or Rethymno to Anogeia. From Anogeia, you would need to arrange a taxi or local transfer to reach Nida Plateau, the starting point for the Mount Ida hike. Bus fares from Heraklion or Rethymno to Anogeia range from €3-€5. A taxi from Anogeia to Nida Plateau may cost around €15-€20.
Hiking

The most popular hiking route to Mount Ida starts from Nida Plateau. The trail is well-marked with signs and red dots. The hike to the summit takes approximately 3 hours. From the parking area at Nida Plateau, follow the path towards the Ideon Cave. After visiting the cave, continue along the trail towards the summit. The path becomes steeper and rockier as you ascend. Be sure to wear appropriate hiking shoes and bring plenty of water.
