The gallery, which opened its doors in August 1988, has since become a cultural landmark, attracting art enthusiasts and visitors from across Greece and beyond. The gallery's collection comprises over 700 works by major Greek artists of the 19th and 20th centuries, including paintings, sculptures, prints and drawings. Artists such as Gyzis, Lytras, Volanakis, Iakovides, Parthenis, and Moralis are well represented, offering a comprehensive overview of the evolution of modern Greek art. The museum's collection is considered one of the most complete and important of its kind. The Averoff Art Gallery not only showcases established masters but also enriches its collection with photographs by Costas Balafas and hosts temporary exhibitions, scientific symposiums, meetings, tours, educational programs, and creative workshops. The Children's Workshop provides artistic opportunities for the region's youth. In 1994, the gallery expanded with a new wing, modernizing its facilities and adding exhibition space, a library, a video/conference room, and a museum shop. An open-air terrace offers stunning mountain views, while a dedicated area hosts children's workshops.
