Ethnological Museum of Thrace: A Cultural Journey

The museum is housed in a stunning stone neoclassical building, constructed in 1899, which once served as a country house. Inside, you'll discover a fascinating collection of over 5,000 objects, including traditional costumes, musical instruments, pottery, metalwork, and tools. The exhibits offer a comprehensive look into the everyday life of Thracians from the 18th to the 20th centuries, showcasing their artistry, resourcefulness, and unique cultural traditions. The museum also features archival photographic material, records, and a library of 3,700 books for research. The museum is divided into thematic sections, including costume design, music and worship, copper and clay objects, textiles, and land cultivation. Don't miss the basement level, where you can explore exhibits related to various economic activities of the region, such as grain, wine, tobacco, silk, indigo, and honey production. The courtyard features a cafeteria and a traditional sesame oil-press.
