Discover more about Blue Caves Zakynthos

Located on the northwest coast of Zakynthos, near Cape Skinari, the Blue Caves are a breathtaking natural wonder sculpted by centuries of wave erosion. Discovered in 1897 by Antonio Komouto, these caves have become one of the island's most popular attractions. The caves owe their name to the unique reflections of light and water that create a vibrant blue hue within the caverns. As sunlight passes through the crystal-clear Ionian Sea and bounces off the white limestone rocks, it illuminates the caves with an otherworldly blue glow. This mesmerizing effect transforms the underwater landscape, making objects appear intensely blue. The Blue Caves consist of a series of natural arches and chambers, including the Great Cave (Megali Spilia) and the Small Cave (Mikri Spilia). Many of these caves are accessible by small to medium-sized boats, allowing visitors to venture deep inside and witness the stunning blue waters up close. Some caves are better suited for experienced swimmers and divers. Swimming and snorkeling in the Blue Caves offer an unforgettable experience, with the clear waters providing excellent visibility of the marine life and the vibrant blue surroundings. Boat tours to the Blue Caves typically depart from Agios Nikolaos port, Zakynthos town harbor, or Cape Skinari. These tours often include stops at other nearby attractions such as Shipwreck Beach (Navagio), offering a comprehensive exploration of Zakynthos' stunning coastline.
