Pilot Hill: A Coastal Nesting Haven

Pilot Hill, located near Grenville on Grenada's eastern coast, is a notable natural landmark and a significant nesting site for Red-billed Tropicbirds. Rising to an elevation of 400 feet, this hill offers panoramic views of the surrounding coastline and the Caribbean Sea. The area is characterized by its unique, boulder-strewn terrain, which provides ideal nesting conditions for the tropicbirds. Historically, the area around Grenville, also known as La Baye, has been an important agricultural and economic hub. While Pilot Hill itself doesn't have a documented extensive history, it contributes to the natural heritage of the region. Grenville has been the capital of St. Andrew Parish since 1796 and is known for its marketplace and agricultural exports. Today, Pilot Hill is primarily known as a prime location for birdwatching, particularly for those interested in observing Red-billed Tropicbirds. During the nesting season, which typically runs from November to May, the hill supports a significant population of these birds, with approximately 250 pairs.
