Discover more about Lake Antoine

Lake Antoine, a hidden gem on Grenada's northeastern coast, offers visitors a unique blend of natural beauty and geological history. Formed by the collapse of a volcanic dome millennia ago, the resulting crater gradually filled with water, creating the island's finest example of a tuffaceous ring. The lake's perfectly shaped crater and surrounding unspoiled nature provide a picturesque setting for relaxation and exploration. Once significantly deeper, siltation has reduced Lake Antoine's depth over time. Despite these changes, the lake continues to support a rich wetland ecosystem, teeming with diverse bird species such as herons, ruddy ducks, and snail kites. The surrounding area, once cleared for sugarcane, is now home to crops like coconut and bananas, adding to the area's agricultural charm. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the lake and the Atlantic Ocean from a small hilltop trail. While the perimeter trail is no longer maintained, the track around the rim is suitable for hiking or driving with a 4WD vehicle. Lake Antoine is also conveniently located near other attractions, including the River Antoine Rum Distillery and Belmont Estate, making it an ideal stop on a Grenadian adventure.
